Planning the event...IT'S YOUR TURN

Last Friday was the PTA movie night at CJ's elementary school. As usual, I get to be a part of the 'planning' committee. Most of you in the teaching world know it is impossible to have any real idea of how many people will attend any after school event. But, since we did have this event last year we thought we had some idea of how many people show up. Last year we had up to 50. Well, PTA is growing and we actually have around 12 board members show up to meetings this year (last year it was 3), so we had more people to help with the planning. Ok, we decided to be generous and allow for 150 to show up. WRONG!!! Try about 350-400. Needless to say, we ran out of hotdogs (twice). And you couldn't hear the movie.
Yes, there were complaints about how disorganized it was. It was very well organized and we had at least 10 people helping. And others thought it was great and we should do it every week. My response to both sets of people is IT'S YOUR TURN to help. If you don't ever help and just complain...you do it. If you want the event every week, you do it. I'd like to come and enjoy something with my kids for once!!!
